Boca Raton FC have today announced a rebranding with the aim of gaining admission to Major League Soccer (MLS) and uniting all football fans in south Florida. The club will henceforth be known as Sporting Boca Raton FC United SC (SBRFCUSC) falling in line with the contemporary naming convention in MLS and placating all factions in the diverse south Florida soccer community. The new SBRFCUSC crest contains several design elements to appeal to the history of the sport in Florida including paying homage to the defunct Tampa Bay Mutiny and Miami Fusion.

MLSLogoIf the club reaches MLS, the plan is for Sporting Boca Raton FC United SC to play their home games at Florida Atlantic University’s Football Stadium. However, working local political and community leadership the club will look to eventually obtain land to build a soccer-specific-stadium.

FAU Stadium is located at the north end of the main FAU Campus in Boca Raton. Opened in 2011, the stadium seats 30,000 fans and it’s easy to access from Glades Road. Starting in 2014, FAU Stadium became home to the Boca Raton Bowl, a college football bowl game which will feature teams from the Mid-American Conference and in alternating years Conference USA and the American Athletic Conference.

The playing surface was named Howard Schnellenberger Field, after the founding coach of the Owls football program, on August 20, 2014. Schnellenberger spent the final 11 seasons of his coaching career at FAU, retiring after the 2011 season.

Former Brazilian International players are committed to finding more investors that will give the club the ability to pay the MLS franchise fee and eventually compete at a high level in MLS.

“We are very excited for this next step in our history,” said President Douglas Heizer. “Sporting Boca Raton FC United SC is a club for the people and a move to MLS is the next logical step as we continue to unite all soccer fans in South Florida.”

“Boca Raton is a World Class City,”  added Heizer. “It’s time we give them World Class Soccer as well.”
