Largely thanks to goalkeeper Michael Stone, Boca Raton FC was able to capture an important away point against Miami United in last week’s NPSL encounter. As the Boys in Blue travel north to take on Jacksonville, Michael Stone is our player to watch.

The 19-year-old goalkeeper recently returned from his first year at Amherst College, joining Boca Raton FC in May. Stone feels positive about his freshman year at Amherst, saying, “I really enjoy working with the goalkeeper coach, Coach Huffman. I feel that he has helped me to improve in all aspects of my game. I definitely feel that I have improved as a player while at Amherst.”

In 10 games for Amherst, Stone played 707 minutes, conceding only nine goals. Allowing only 1.15 goals per 90 minutes, Stone’s shot-stopping efforts consistently provide his team an opportunity to win.

Stone’s strengths include commanding the backline and collecting aerial balls. The Gianluigi Buffon fan is working to improve his ball distribution, specifically the distance of his goal kicks and side volleys.

“I love playing with Boca Raton FC,” says Michael Stone. “It’s really cool to represent Boca, as well as play with several of the guys that I played club soccer with while growing up. It’s a lot of fun playing against some of the top talent in South Florida.”

After earning a positive result in the first game of a four game road stretch, Stone is confident that the Boys in Blue are capable of collecting three points in Jacksonville: “We can carry this momentum into Jacksonville by making sure to stay focused and compact in the back. A shutout would be big, as we would only need to score one goal to pick up a win and three points.”

Listen to the game live on Boca Chamber Radio! Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m.
