BOCA RATON, FL — Boca Raton Football Club was able to close out a three-game homestand on a positive note this weekend as the boys in blue defeated Naples United FC at home in a classic Mud Bowl matchup at Atlantic High School on Saturday evening 3-1.

The game was the first win for Boca Raton this season, giving Boca Raton FC a much-needed three points.

The game started with Boca Raton showing off their offense, as they keep the ball deep in Naples territory throughout most of the first half. Boca Raton was really trying for their first goal of the game, as they recorded four shots on goal in the first half.

In the 43rd minute of the game, Boca Raton finally found the breakthrough when midfielder Gabriel Diniz took the ball down the right side of the field and sent a beautiful cross to Alex Norton who was able to tap it in for his first goal of the season.

Returning from the half both teams kept an even possession of the ball. It wasn’t until the 63rd minute when Matheus Ayrolla scored the second goal of the game and his first of the season.

“Going into tonight’s game we knew the weather was against us,” said Ayrolla. “We train for these situations to be prepared. One of my main functions on this team is to score goals, so it came naturally.”

The Boca Raton offense kept up the momentum recording four more shots on goal. In the 73rd minute, Naples United gave up a penalty kick, which captain Carlos Meneses notched the 3rd goal of the game, his second of the season.

Naples amped up their offense and was able to record five shots on goal which were effectively stopped by the stellar play of goalkeeper Michael Stone.

Despite Stone’s heroics, Naples was able to get one goal back late in the match.

“I credit the team in front of me for tonight’s game, they played very offensively which helped me perform my job effectively,” said Stone after the match. “Without them, we wouldn’t have been able to score 3 goals and get out first win of the season.”

Boca Raton will now hit the road for the first time this season as they take on Storm FC this weekend at Central Broward Regional Park at 5:30 pm.
