On a Saturday windy evening at Vizcaya Park, Boca Raton FC visited FC Miami City for a friendly match; although, the intensity on the pitch suggested nothing less than a competitive match: flying challenges, spot-on tackles, couple of scuffles between players, replicating the velocity of a cup tie. The sides shared the spoils in an exciting 1-1 draw.

Boca Raton’s midfield linked well with the forwards, and also did well to break  passes within the middle of the park, relieving pressure on Boca’s Raton defenders who were playing in a  3-5-2 formation. Boca Raton had exceptional build-up play through the vicinity around the left flank,  connecting with Ukrainian International Edmar who was playing centrally. Boca Raton wing back Jason Fitzgerald occasionally pressured the backline of FC Miami City. Edmar and the Boca Raton FC attackers pressed high to prevent Miami building from the back.

Boca Raton’s defended vigorously on the right side, as FC Miami City exploited some space on the left side in the first half to cross numerous diagonal passes from the left midfield.

Scoreless going to the half, though both clubs had roughly the same amount of chances, as Boca Raton’s defensive shape was well intact and organized. FC Miami City were pushed into a dangerous posture defensively, but Boca Raton was not able to capitalize with their chances.

At the beginning of the second half, FC Miami City had some joy in getting behind Boca Raton’s defense, and created a few early chances but could not break through.

Both clubs scored spectacular free kick goals midway through the second half but then the match settled into a rhythm where most of the action was in midfield.

After two halves, the friendly ended up in a 1-1 draw, though it wasn’t lack of  chances created by either team. The match proved to be an entertaining display of attacking soccer.

Boca Raton FC will kick off its NPSL Season on April 30 against Miami United at Ted Hendricks Stadium.
