Boca Raton, FL – Boca Raton Football Club announced Tuesday that Midfielder/Defender Reginald (C.J.) Phelps will mark the club’s first-ever American Premier Soccer League (APSL) signing for the inaugural 2015 season.
“I’ve known C.J. for many years,” said General Manager Marcelo Castillo. “He’s a quality player with a lot of experience that will be one of the leaders of this club.”
The former United States Under-18 National will rejoin head coach Marcello Castillo whom he played under during his four years at Boca Raton High School, where he was a 1st Team High School All American.
“Coach Castillo has taught me a lot through the years I played under him at Boca High,” says Phelps. “My soccer career started in Boca Raton and coming to Boca Raton FC was just the next logical step.”
In his senior season, the midfielder/defender led the Boca High Bobcats to a Class 6A runner-up finish with 18 goals and 18 assists which led him to be named the Palm Beach Post Big School Player of the Year.
“The signing of C.J. is big for our club,” says majority owner, Douglas Heizer. “He is a local kid that has been part of our community his whole life and having him as our first club signing is a huge step in the right direction.”
Phelps has played for clubs like Boca United, Team Boca, Gunstorms, and Shultz Academy prior to joining Boca Raton FC for the 2015 APSL season.
“There’s nothing better than getting into something at the ground level,” explains Phelps. “Nothing beats a team of players that have grown up together and watched each other grow into the players they are today. I’m eagerly looking forward to this season and many more to come.”
