With only 12 players dressed thank to injuries, absences and suspensions, Boca Raton FC lost Friday night at Broward College to Miami Fusion by a 6-0 scoreline. The Fusion’s victory keeps them alone atop the NPSL Sunshine Conference table.

William Stamatis had a brace and David Ochoa had a goal and an assist to pace Miami. NPSL Southern Region goal scoring leader Victor Cardoso recorded his ninth goal of the season on a banner night for Miami.

Boca Raton was severally shorthanded playing without co-leading goalscorer Justin Wilbanks, Captain Bruno Militz, the suspended Jason Fitzgerald and several other regulars.  With only 11 players available for selection, the Boca Raton FC staff did an outstanding job of using its personnel even though many players were deployed to unfamiliar positions on the pitch. Miami took a quick 2-0 lead but for long portions of the first half and early in the second half, Boca Raton was able to control possession and create some chances to score. The best chance came late in the first half when Shadi Harb put a laser free kick on target but was saved by the keeper.

Unfortunately with the scoreline at 2-0 almost midway through the second half, Gabriel Bravo was sent off and down to ten men with no available substitutions, the dam broke for Boca’s brave defense. Four goals followed the sending off and Miami ran out 6-0 winners.

Boca Raton returns to NPSL action next Friday July 7 in Winter Park against Kraze United.
